CMV x COOPARES: Advancing Cashew Processing in Côte d’Ivoire

CMV is preparing to install an 80,000 MT/year cashew processing plant in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, marking the next milestone in its partnership with COOPARES.

Following the successful completion of COOPARES’ second cashew processing plant in Korhogo, Cashew Machines Vietnam (CMV) is now preparing for the installation of the company’s third cashew processing plant, this time in Abidjan.

With a planned processing capacity of 80,000 metric tons of raw cashew nuts (RCN) per year, the new facility represents another major step in COOPARES’ expansion and in CMV’s continued contribution to the development of local cashew processing in Africa.

Strengthening Local Cashew Processing in Côte d’Ivoire

Côte d’Ivoire has established itself as one of the world’s leading cashew-producing and RCN-exporting countries. At the same time, the country has been steadily increasing its domestic cashew processing capacity as part of a broader effort to create more value within the local agricultural value chain.

According to the World Bank, Côte d’Ivoire’s domestic cashew processing capacity increased from around 68,515 tons in 2015 to more than 345,000 tons in 2024. The country has also set an ambition to process more than 50% of its RCN locally by 2030.

This shift is creating new opportunities for investment in modern cashew processing plants, processing technology, engineering solutions, and local manufacturing capacity.

It is within this changing landscape that CMV and COOPARES are continuing to build their partnership.

From Korhogo to Abidjan: The Next Step with COOPARES

The upcoming Abidjan project follows the successful development of COOPARES’ second processing plant in Korhogo, where CMV has supported the implementation of cashew processing technology and equipment.

Now, with the third plant planned for Abidjan, the partnership is entering another stage of expansion.

The new facility is designed for a processing capacity of 80,000 MT of RCN per year, adding significant capacity to COOPARES’ processing operations and supporting its long-term development within Côte d’Ivoire’s cashew industry.

For CMV, the project is also a continuation of our commitment to providing integrated cashew processing solutions for large-scale processing operations — from processing equipment and engineering to installation and commissioning.

COOPARES’ Expansion Toward 130,000 MT/Year

COOPARES, Côte d’Ivoire’s No.1 RCN exporter, has been expanding beyond raw cashew nut exports and investing further in local processing.

With the addition of the new Abidjan plant, COOPARES is moving toward its long-term target of 130,000 MT/year in cashew processing capacity.

An important part of this development is the focus on local investment and local operation. By developing processing capacity within Côte d’Ivoire and building operations around local stakeholders, the project supports greater value creation closer to the source of the raw material.

This approach aligns with the broader direction of Côte d’Ivoire’s cashew sector, where increasing domestic processing is becoming an important part of the industry’s development.
